KETTLEWELL
Kettlewell is a popular holiday centre located in the
beautiful Upper Wharfedale.The village offers local amenities including a children's playground, general store, post office, tea rooms, gift shop, public houses, bistro, garage and outdoor clothing shop.

It is believed that the name Kettlewell
is Anglo Saxon and comes from
Cetel
Wella which means a bubbling spring
or stream. Signs of their farming
methods can still be seen in terraced
fields to the south of the village.
Traces of Brigantines and Roman
occupation have also been found.
Kettlewell was mentioned in the Doomsday book, and has had a long and varied history.
There was once a busy and important Thursday Market mainly selling corn and took place in the square opposite the Kings Head Inn.

SCARECROW FESTIVAL
In 1994, scarecrows first took over Kettlewell village as
part of a fundraising 'Fun Day' for Kettlewell's School.
Due to the overwhelming support and enthusiasm
of the villages, there were over 110 scarecrows
displayed throughout the village in gardens, on roofs
and even in the churchyard.
The scarecrow figures were many and varied ranging from chimney sweeps, vicar's and clowns to bride's, fisherman, babies and even a cyclist.
